Melanistic (black), blue, chocolate, cinnamon and longhaired Bengals are NOT recognized varieties for TICA Championship class, per the TICA Bengal standard. Responsible breeders do NOT charge exuberant prices for these varieties, nor tout them as “rare” and more valuable  (the genes are in the Bengal gene pool, as recessive traits and do “pop up” from time to time, often as “surprises”.  Most breeders choose to “bred away” from these varieties, due to the TICA standard of perfection).

Whilst, every color and shade of Bengal is beautiful and may have its purpose in one’s program, we strongly recommend avoiding anyone that spreads misinformation or is unknowledgeable about this beloved breed.  Reputable Breeders should be quite knowledgeable about the many aspects of the breed.  There are many fabulous, respectable breeders out there.  One just has to ask or put the research into locating the good ones, in amongst all the others.
